Taiwan Mobile to Venture into Cryptocurrency Industry?
On July 5, the Financial Supervisory Commission (FSC) announced the list of “virtual currency platform operators that have completed the statement of compliance with anti-money laundering regulations,” with the 26th entity listed being “Fusheng Digital Co., Ltd.” This company is led by Lin Zhi-Chen, the General Manager of Taiwan Telecom (Taiwan Mobile), who also serves as Chairman and Partner at AppWorks Initial Accelerator.

Moreover, the directors and supervisors of Fusheng Digital Co., Ltd. are key figures within Taiwan Mobile. Director Han Kun-Ju is the Deputy General Manager of New Technology Business Development at Taiwan Mobile, and has been involved in developing the Pi wallet at PChome. Supervisor Cai Qi-Yan holds the position of Group Chief Information Officer.
According to trademark information from Fusheng Digital Co., Ltd., they have currently introduced OP Crypto Assets Account, OPCrypto, and OPCryptoex. While these names are directly related to the “cryptocurrency industry,” it remains uncertain if they are directly linked to exchange operations.
Lin Zhi-Chen himself, as the General Manager of Taiwan Mobile, holds an open attitude towards the Web3 industry. Not only has he supported numerous related startups through AppWorks Initial Accelerator, but in an interview with “WEB3+,” he stated, “Fiat currencies will be significantly replaced in the next 20-30 years.” He explained that the new generation of currencies no longer requires government oversight, marking one of the transformations brought by the Web3 wave to human society.
Initially recruiting Han Kun-Ju from PChome and appointing him as the General Manager of Fusheng Digital was seen by outsiders as an effort to further expand the “mo coin” ecosystem. However, the latest list approved by the FSC suggests that the situation may be more complex.
Taiwan Mobile’s move is bound to stir up some waves in Taiwan’s cryptocurrency industry. The key questions now include how they will interact with the government, how a major telecommunications company can embrace the flexibility of the Web3 industry, and even the scrutiny surrounding their every move.
