Solana Introduces Showtime Smartwatch
Solana’s Saga smartphone broke sales records due to its “airdrop” benefits, with prices on the secondhand market reaching an astonishing $5,000, despite its original price of only $999 (later reduced to $599).
Now, the Solana ecosystem has created the Showtime smartwatch, a wearable device that combines AI and blockchain technology. Developed by the innovative tech company Hetaro Labs, Showtime aims to bring the human-computer interface to a natural level, making interactions as intuitive as putting on clothes, snapping fingers, or speaking. According to Ben Crox, CEO of Hetaro Labs and a senior participant in the Solana ecosystem, “Machines will know you, follow you, and understand you. The introduction of the Showtime smartwatch will bring us closer to this kind of life.”
Showtime features the Qualcomm Snapdragon W5 processor, 2GB of RAM, and 32GB of storage. It runs on the Android operating system and is equipped with an AMOLED display screen. Additionally, it supports GPS positioning, 4G LTE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and NFC technology, allowing the smartwatch to interact with other devices.
Of course, a smartwatch wouldn’t be complete without basic health monitoring features. Showtime comes with built-in sensors to track users’ steps, heart rate, sleep patterns, and more.
Combining AI with Web3 functionality, Showtime’s AI partner is one of its unique highlights. The built-in Show AI learns users’ habits and preferences, providing predictive personalized experiences. For example, it can recommend physical activities that match users’ preferences, experiences, and abilities, or provide airdrop tips based on their risk preferences and investment portfolios.
Since Showtime operates on the Solana blockchain, the smartwatch serves as a digital wallet, allowing users to perform transactions, run blockchain games, and present NFT certificates stored in the wallet.
In addition, Showtime has partnered with Coolso, a company with multiple patented technologies, to enable precise recognition of finger movements and force, with quick responses. For example, a simple fist bump can exchange contact information, and raising a hand can receive airdrop rewards from the wallet in the smartwatch.
Why choose to create a smartwatch instead of releasing another smartphone? Ben Crox explains that after discussions with various participants in the Solana ecosystem, many believe that achieving widespread adoption and changing people’s lives with devices requires challenging the biggest competitors in the market, such as Samsung and Apple. However, top-of-the-line smartphones are not only difficult for small teams to develop but also may not appeal to consumers due to their high prices. On the other hand, a smaller and more convenient smartwatch would be a better choice for achieving widespread adoption.
Ben Crox hopes that Showtime will change people’s perception of smartwatches, proving that the product is not just a tool for displaying time and detecting health indicators but also a highly functional device that can be used for payments and social interactions, potentially replacing smartphones.
To achieve this goal, Ben Crox emphasizes the importance of security in Showtime’s design. Developers have implemented blockchain technologies such as multi-signature and voice recognition to ensure users’ security during payments and prevent theft.
Furthermore, he acknowledges that even with advanced technology, users still worry about data loss if the smartwatch is lost or damaged. Therefore, the Showtime team is committed to enhancing multi-factor authentication and data recovery capabilities.
Currently, Showtime has already attracted many ecosystem partners, including meme coin Bonk, game Genopets, and the community 852web3. As the ecosystem expands, more features, ways to participate, and even airdrop rewards may be introduced, generating excitement among users.
Showtime is now available for pre-order at a price of 3 SOL (approximately $450), with the product expected to ship in the first quarter of 2025.
