**Musk: Grok-3 Will Be the “Strongest Model on Earth”**
“One hundred percent, people will love Grok!” said Elon Musk during a live stream on February 18 Taiwan time, marking the launch of the xAI model he founded.
Due to Musk’s announcement the day before, stating that the upcoming Grok-3 would be the “strongest model on Earth,” the official live stream attracted over 2 million simultaneous viewers.
Competing against Google’s Gemini, OpenAI’s ChatGPT, Anthropic’s Claude, and also including China’s startup DeepSeek in the comparison, the xAI team showcased Grok-3 and the smaller parameter version Grok-3 mini during the live stream. In tests related to mathematics, science, and computer engineering, Grok-3 outperformed all existing models.

On the model blind testing platform Chatbot Arena (formerly LMSYS), the early Grok-3 model, codenamed Chocolate, received a user rating of 1,400 for handling comprehensive Q&A, surpassing Gemini 2.0 and ChatGPT-4o. Musk emphasized that Grok-3’s computational power is over ten times that of the previous generation model and that it will continue to dynamically adjust after launch, stating, “This model will get better every day!”
**Grok-3’s Latest Three Modes Target In-Depth Research, Thinking, and Creative Applications**
**DeepSearch Mode: Specifically Designed to Solve Complex Problems**
One of xAI’s goals is to solve complex problems, including those Musk is particularly concerned about, such as space travel, as well as other scientific issues requiring extensive data analysis and complex calculations. With Google, OpenAI, and AI search engine Perplexity launching their own “Deep Research” features for scientific research, xAI has also added a “DeepSearch” mode to Grok-3, enabling comprehensive research, thinking, and presentation of analytical results for complex issues. Musk stated that “DeepSearch” can be considered “the next generation of search engines,” allowing AI to complete research that previously took hours in just ten minutes. Notably, when users select the “Show Thinking” feature, they can see the complete process of how AI understands and processes problems, changing the previous passive reception of AI-generated content into traceable and transparent output.

**Think Mode: Proficient in Reasoning and Physics Problems**
In addition, the Grok-3 model includes “Think” and “Big Brain” modes. During the live stream, xAI engineers stated that the “Think” mode excels at handling high-level reasoning and physics problems, such as programming Grok-3 to calculate celestial movements.

**Big Brain Mode: Proficient in Abstract Creation**
As for the third mode, “Big Brain,” Musk referred to it as “the starting point of AI creativity,” capable of conducting relatively abstract creation. For example, during the live demonstration, the team asked Grok-3 to generate a new game combining Tetris and color elimination.

The xAI team also announced that they would soon develop a voice-based chatbot for Grok-3. Currently, Grok-3 has been released to X’s Premium+ subscribers, and xAI is working on a new subscription plan called “SuperGrok” for both app and website versions, encompassing Grok-3 along with the “DeepSearch” and “Think” features.

Musk indicated that the Grok-3 API is expected to be publicly available in a few weeks and that, as per usual practice, xAI will open source the previous generation model once the latest model stabilizes, which means Grok-2 is expected to be open-sourced in the coming months.
