Trump’s Favorite Social Platform: Truth Social
“Now is a great time to buy! DJT.” Recently, U.S. President Donald Trump made a post on his social platform Truth Social, urging the public to buy in quickly. Just a few hours after this post, the U.S. government announced a 90-day suspension of tariffs on multiple countries, causing global stock markets to surge, leading Taiwanese netizens to jokingly refer to Trump as “Trump Investment Consultant.” This also drew significant attention to Truth Social, which can provide real-time updates on Trump’s news.
Recently, the U.S. launched a reciprocal tariff policy that sent shockwaves around the world, drawing heightened scrutiny on Trump’s every move. Currently, Trump primarily uses Truth Social, which has over 9.5 million followers, making it an important platform for the public to stay informed about Trump’s statements and insights into international politics and market trends.

What is Truth Social? Where does “Trump Investment Consultant” make announcements?
Truth Social is a social platform launched by Trump in 2022, owned by the Trump Media & Technology Group. It currently lacks an official Chinese name, and can be directly translated as “Truth Social” or “Truthful Social.” The establishment of this platform traces back to the U.S. Capitol riots in early 2021, during which Trump was accused of inciting violence through social media and was banned from several platforms including Twitter (now X) and Facebook. Subsequently, he decided to create his own social platform, which led to the launch of Truth Social a year later.
Trump has touted Truth Social as a platform that is not controlled by tech giants and genuinely values free speech. After its launch in 2022, it briefly topped the App Store download charts. According to Bloomberg, in November last year, following Trump’s victory, Truth Social had approximately 355,000 daily active users, which represented a growth of about 3% from the previous month, but still fell significantly short compared to mainstream social platforms.
Trump has about 9.5 million followers on Truth Social, making him the account with the most followers on the platform. However, compared to his over 100 million followers on X, this number may still be relatively small.

One of the discussion points in Trump’s widely noted “buy in” post is the ending “DJT.” DJT is an abbreviation for Trump’s name, Donald J. Trump. The Associated Press noted that Trump occasionally tags this in his posts on Truth Social to emphasize that the post was authored by him. However, the issue is that DJT is also the stock symbol for Trump Media & Technology Group, the parent company of Truth Social, which went public via SPAC last year. There has been much speculation about whether Trump is promoting his own company, though the U.S. government has not provided an explanation regarding this post.

Regardless, this post has become a focal point for many of Trump’s opponents. “He likes to control the market this way, but he better be careful,” stated Richard Painter, former White House ethics lawyer, who mentioned that securities laws prohibit trading on insider information or aiding others in trading. “Those who bought after seeing the post made a lot of money.”
Downloadable from Google Play/App Store, Taiwanese people can also use Truth Social
Although Truth Social currently does not support a Chinese interface, Taiwanese citizens who wish to follow Trump’s first-hand news can still access the website directly or download the app via Google Play and the App Store to use this social platform.

The account registration process for Truth Social is quite similar to mainstream social platforms, requiring users to provide a phone number (those without a mobile phone need to apply via email), an email address, and other information. The only notable aspect is that the platform is currently only open to users aged 18 and above. The UI layout and functionalities of Truth Social are very similar to those of X and Threads, making it likely that users familiar with these platforms will quickly adapt.
The account registration process for Truth Social is not different from that of general social platforms, but the platform claims to only provide services for users aged 18 and above.

It is still difficult to say whether Trump’s actions regarding reciprocal tariffs have promoted user growth on Truth Social, but for those who want to grasp the dynamics of the tariff war in real-time, Truth Social is undoubtedly one of the platforms to watch.
