MBTI Perspective on Cryptocurrency Investment Personality Analysis
Personality determines destiny, and personality also determines investment.
Recently, a stock market joke went viral in the WeChat circles:
A friend said that MBTI can represent stock trading styles well.
E is always inquiring everywhere; I is focused on research.
N is about grand narratives and tech stocks; S follows the data, focusing on consumer stocks.
T dares to catch a falling knife on the left side but often sells too early; F avoids the left-side bottom but can catch the last leg of a rally.
J diversifies positions, while P goes all-in with heavy investments.
In the cryptocurrency world, there is something that surprises most people:
Whether it is the MBTI surveys in Chinese-speaking communities or the ones conducted overseas targeting crypto investors, they all point to the same conclusion—
in the crypto circle, introverts (I) dominate.
In cryptocurrency investment, the four dimensions of MBTI have different effects on investment styles:
- Extraversion/Introversion (E/I): Introverts (I) are more inclined to independent research, and investment decisions are based on personal analysis; Extraverts (E) are more influenced by community trends and are active on social media.
- Sensing/Intuition (S/N): Sensing types (S) prefer established cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin and Ethereum, focusing on current data and facts; Intuitive types (N) focus on innovative projects and pursue long-term potential.
- Thinking/Feeling (T/F): Thinking types (T) use logic and technical analysis, while Feeling types (F) are influenced by values and emotions, focusing on community impact and values.
- Judging/Perceiving (J/P): Judging types (J) have structured investment plans and long-term holdings; Perceiving types (P) are more flexible and may engage in frequent trading.
Some popular MBTI personalities in the crypto circle and their investment styles are as follows:
INTJ (Introversion, Intuition, Thinking, Judging) – “The Architect”
Investment Style: Systematic, visionary.
Characteristics: INTJs build complex investment strategies, possibly combining technical analysis, fundamental analysis, and market forecasts. They prefer independent thinking and tend to invest in projects with disruptive potential (such as Layer 1 blockchains or AI + crypto).
Strengths: Far-sighted, able to identify long-term trends.
Weaknesses: May be overly confident and overlook short-term risks.
INFJ (Introversion, Intuition, Feeling, Judging) – “The Advocate”
Investment Style: Idealistic, value-oriented.
Characteristics: INFJs may choose to support projects aligned with their vision, like Ethereum or AI, even if they face heavy declines. They tend to hold long-term (HODL) and feel a strong resonance with the mission of the community and project.
Strengths: Patient, willing to wait for value realization.
Weaknesses: May ignore short-term market signals, leading to missed buy and sell opportunities.
INTP (Introversion, Intuition, Thinking, Perceiving) – “The Thinker”
Investment Style: Research-driven, innovation-oriented.
Characteristics: INTPs are very interested in the technical details and underlying logic of cryptocurrencies (like L1). They may spend considerable time analyzing code, market structures, or novel DeFi projects. Investment decisions are based on rational deductions rather than emotions.
Strengths: Able to discover undervalued projects with potential.
Weaknesses: May be too immersed in theory, lacking decisive execution.
ENTJ (Extraversion, Intuition, Thinking, Judging) – “The Commander”
Investment Style: Strategic, decisive, and seeks dominance.
Characteristics: ENTJs like to formulate long-term plans and seize market trends. They may invest in emerging projects with potential or even try to lead or participate in the crypto community (e.g., DAO). They are good at analyzing macroeconomic trends and making quick decisions.
Strengths: Bold and visionary, able to seize big opportunities.
Weaknesses: May be overly confident, underestimate risks, leading to buying high.
ISTJ (Introversion, Sensing, Thinking, Judging) – “The Logistician”
Investment Style: Cautious, detail-oriented, fact-based.
Characteristics: ISTJs will deeply study the fundamentals of cryptocurrencies, such as whitepapers, technical details, and team backgrounds. They tend to choose verified “blue-chip” projects (like Bitcoin or Ethereum) and avoid high-risk altcoins. Investment decisions are based on data and historical performance, and they are less influenced by market sentiment.
Strengths: Stable, strong risk management skills.
Weaknesses: May miss out on rapidly rising emerging projects due to being too conservative and slow to react.
ENFP (Extraversion, Intuition, Feeling, Perceiving) – “The Inspirer”
Investment Style: Passionate, exploratory.
Characteristics: ENFPs are curious about new things and may try out various niche tokens or NFT projects. They are easily drawn to storytelling and community enthusiasm, enjoying participation in “the next big thing.”
Strengths: Open-minded, sometimes able to catch early opportunities.
Weaknesses: Easily distracted, lacking discipline.
ESTP (Extraversion, Sensing, Thinking, Perceiving) – “The Entrepreneur”
Investment Style: Adventurous, short-term trading.
Characteristics: ESTPs enjoy fast-paced and high-stimulation activities. They may be day traders or those who chase “pump and dump” opportunities. They are good at capitalizing on market volatility to make quick profits, but may not delve deeply into projects.
Strengths: Flexible, able to seize short-term profits quickly.
Weaknesses: Lack of patience, may incur losses in volatile markets.
ESFP (Extraversion, Sensing, Feeling, Perceiving) – “The Performer”
Investment Style: Impulsive, trend-chasing, emotional.
Characteristics: ESFPs are easily attracted by hype on social media (such as the “Dogecoin craze”), enjoying participation in popular trends. They invest more based on intuition and current emotions, often buying driven by FOMO (fear of missing out).
Strengths: Quick to react, able to profit in short-term frenzies.
Weaknesses: Lack of long-term planning, prone to panic selling during market corrections.
Be Your True Self and Earn the Money That Belongs to Your Personality
As I continue to witness the cycles and narrative trends in the cryptocurrency world, I gradually understand that, whether it’s DeFi, NFT, Layer2, AI, or MEME… in the end, they all cannot escape the fate of “investing within your own personality.”
Personality is the true “destiny code” that determines your investment trajectory.
No matter how much technical analysis you learn or how many tokens you research, how many KOL analyses you listen to, the strategy you can execute is still the one allowed by your personality.
Looking at others getting rich overnight from a certain token, only to find that no matter what, you cannot replicate their “adventurous” investment.
In this tempting world of crypto, the most important thing is not chasing other people’s success, but finding the “investment code” that suits you within your own personality’s “comfort zone.” When you accept the limitations of your personality, you can leverage those limits to your advantage.
Perhaps, the risk in the crypto world is not missing opportunities, but going against your own personality when making investments. Be honest with yourself, accept your investment personality, and you will survive in this market for the long term, earning wealth that truly belongs to you and aligns with your personality’s destiny.
In the great wash of the cryptocurrency market, the ones who ultimately remain are not those chasing every trend, but those investors who stay true to themselves.
