Ethereum Welcomes Major Upgrade! Dencun Upgrade Set to Land on Mainnet
January 31, 2023 Update: The Ethereum Dencun upgrade officially went live on the Sepolia testnet on January 30, marking another significant milestone achieved.
Prior to the Dencun upgrade, it underwent simulated runs on three testnets, allowing developers to fine-tune protocols or decentralized applications in relatively low-risk environments. Sepolia is the second testnet in this process, with the final test upgrade scheduled for February 7 on the Ethereum testnet Holesky.
Once all three testnets successfully complete the process, developers will formally launch the Dencun upgrade on the Ethereum mainnet. This upgrade is highly anticipated to enhance network scalability, security, and usability, bringing significant improvements to the Ethereum ecosystem.
Industry insiders expect the Dencun upgrade to go live on the Ethereum mainnet by March. Of particular interest is the EIP-4844 proposal, which will enable the Ethereum network to process over 100,000 transactions per second at relatively low transaction fees, greatly enhancing efficiency.
This means Ethereum’s major pain points—high transaction fees and low transaction speeds—will be effectively alleviated. This is undoubtedly a major boon for Ethereum’s extensive ecosystem.
The entire upgrade process is progressing according to plan, with successful upgrade testing already conducted on the Goerli testnet. Assuming smooth passes for Sepolia and Holesky testnets, the mainnet launch date for the Dencun upgrade will be announced soon.
This is unquestionably a significant event for Ethereum and the entire cryptocurrency sector, deserving close attention.
